He said employment in the services sector grew at a rate of 25 per cent between 2004 and 2014 under the UPA regime, while it grew by 36 per cent between 2014 and 2023 under the Modi regime. The unemployment rate has come down to 3.2 per cent in 2023-24 from 6 per cent in 2017-18. At the same time, the employment rate i.e. the working population ratio increased to 58.2 percent in 2023-24, which was 46.8 percent in 2017-18.

The opposition parties including the BJP and the Congress have come out heavily against the government in the issue. To answer this, when Union Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya presented the data on Thursday, everyone's eyes were open. Mandaviya said employment in the country has increased by 36 per cent in the last 10 years to 64.33 crore in 2023-24 from 47.15 crore in 2014-15. This shows the improvement in employment generation during the tenure of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government. Under the Congress-led UPA government, employment grew by about 7 per cent between 2004 and 2014, he said. During the UPA regime, only 2.9 crore additional jobs were created between 2004 and 2014, while under the Narendra Modi government, 17.19 crore jobs were added between 2014-24. That's a 6-fold increase.
The Minister said that in the last one year (2023-24) alone, about 4.6 crore jobs have been created in the country. On the agriculture sector, he said employment declined by 16 per cent between 2004 and 2014 under the UPA regime, while it increased by 19 per cent between 2014 and 2023 under the NDA regime.
